Marines Receiving New M27 Assault Rifles

The U.S. Marine Corps is purchasing M27 Infantry Automatic Rifles (IAR) after positive reviews from Marines. Field-testing saw the M27 outperform the M4 with superior volume of fire and a longer effective range. The Corps plans to start fielding the rifles to Infantry units as early as 2018. The M27 is a lightweight, magazine-fed 5.56mm weapon based on the Heckler & Koch HK416.
